Evaluation Question 7

Evaluation question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at my preliminary task I feel like I have learnt a lot to what I knew back then.

I have expanded my knowledge on the software premiere pro by a lot. When making our preliminary task we had a lot of technology problems with this software so we had to make our preliminary task on Apple's software imovie.
However, with seeking help we found out that for some reason we had to change our clips to an mp4 format in order to be able to work with them on premiere pro.

I have also learnt how important preparation is whilst making a longer film opening. For example, by making an animatic it can visually show us our idea. And also by planning the titles it allows us to remember what order we wanted the titles to go in.

Furthermore, compared to our preliminary task I have also learnt how to use effects such as fade ins, and different audio effects which we did not previously use. And I being in charge of sound, have been able to include more than one sound and have been able to put multiple audios into our opening sequence. By doing this it has raised the quality of our work and has made it seem more like a professional product compared to our preliminary task.

Because our opening sequence product was filmed outside in the public unlike our preliminary task, I have also learned how to be cautious of the public and cars and the risks that could be involved and how to minimize this risks.

Evaluation Question 5

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/ address your audience?

We attracted the younger side of our audience (aged 15-25) by having a young adult who’s age is meant to be roughly 20-25 therefore, initially this may seem appealing to them because they may feel like they can relate. However, when watching the film it would be hard for this age to group to relate to the main character because we have purposefully have subverted the audience’s expectation of her being a usual young adult stereotype by doing things that seem a bit shady, which is emphasised by the music alongside those actions.

We have been able to attract some of the male audience by having a female as our main character. Once again, we have subverted their expectation because unlike a lot of thrillers that involve a young blonde white Caucasian woman in them, I have directed our main character to walk with an assertive movement so she seems stronger and not weak like in other thriller films. Also I wanted her to wear an outfit which would cover most of her skin and also had our actor to wear trousers instead of a skirt because skirts are a common association with the female gender because it may seem more appealing or feminine which is thought of as weak and by wearing trousers, which is what most men wear in films it could represent a more masculine aspect of her which is strong and assertive and doesn’t objectify her in anyway.

Furthermore, the last reason is also how I have addressed the female audience as director. Because we have made our female lead role seem confident and assertive this may make female viewers intrigued in the film more because this is not a usual convention of a thriller film.

In addition, we have also attracted our audience through the mise-en-scene. I think we have done this at the beginning of our opening sequence with the map and pictures. The fact that we left very limited information on the frame may appeal to audiences because they are curious and what to find out more about what is going on in the story and how is the briefcase involved, so we have also used enigmas.
Evaluation question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

I think that our target audience would be appealing to young adults and over. Our character isn’t particularly someone that the audience can relate to so this might make our film more intriguing because it’s not a normal thing people see all the time in media due to many enigmas we have used such as the briefcase and why she is looking at a map of different places in Europe.

However, I also think that middle aged people would also be interested in the film since it’s a thriller. I have looked into this researched and have found this table:

Table reference  from-   http://www.participations.org/Volume%209/Issue%202/4%20Redfern.pdf

This shows us that the age group of males that is most likely to watch a thriller is age 55 and over because that is the most popular age group from all the ages to want to watch a thriller. And within that category of males (55+) it is the 3rd most popular genre, it is followed by comedy which 171 55+ year old males voted for and also action/ adventure which also 171 55+ males voted for.

Furthermore, if we look at the females it has a similar result; that out of all the age groups, 55 and over females are more likely to watch a thriller out of all the other female age groups. And out of that age group of 55+ female audience it is the 2nd most popular genre which is followed by Drama which 220 55+ woman have voted for.

In conclusion, this research that I have done has been helpful because it has allowed me to see that our film may also appeal to older audiences as well as younger audiences that we were also trying to make our film appeal to.
