Lighting Workshop
In media lighting is a very important factor. It can convey the mood of the piece and can also create a particular atmospheric effect. For example in most comedies they use natural/ high key lighting to create a light hearted feeling to the viewers. As oppose to a thriller/ horror which may use low key lighting to give the film an eerie effect which is something I will keep in mind as the director of our thriller opening sequence.
In this picture from the movie 'Terminator' we can see that they have used a warm orange light from the right side of the face in contrast, they have also used a cool blue on the left side of his face. The use of the blue light could add to the science fiction genre.

In our lighting workshop we used different lights such as a candle (image above) which created a warm orange/yellow hue glow. We also used a blue and yellow studio light. I think that this has helped us to understand the different types of lighting and what each one could help to portray when using them in a film.
